I saw the thread about the failure in updating the software on the XL950 thermostat and since I can't reply to that thread, I simply try to post my experience with it as it might also be helpful for some pros.
When we first installed the XL950 as part of a new system, it came with olf software that didn't recognize the new module in the TAM8 air handler, which I had read about here. So, we tried to update the software with an old 512MB SD card I had, thinking that would be fine as the card according to Trane needs about 80MB of free space. The update seemed to work, but then checking the software version nothing had changed and it still didn't recognize the TAM8. The dealer came back the next day with another XL950 but it had the same problem. The installer then got hold of the Trane technical rep who told us that we had to use a 2GB card which we did and that worked just fine.
So, unless the zoning module has something to do with the problem one poster had in upgrading the software on his XL950, he should try an unlocked SD card at least 2GB in size. I personally have used an 8GB card without any issue.
I hope that post doesn't violate any rules as it comes from a field rep of Trane and helps someone, including some pros.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
